This oil painting is hanging in the Miami Design District at CityLoftArt LLC (European Art Gallery). The
original image was a monotype done in the 1980's during Virginia Erdie's undergraduate studies at The
Maryland Institute, College of Art. She had to revisit that monotype and create a very large, surreal oil
painting because of her prevalent theme regarding the almighty dollar and capitalism and greed. The very
colorful reds, oranges and greens draw attention to the gumby-like character in the foreground to whom the
very chic but whacky lady who is holding the key, dangling it, to the astonishment of the oppressed and
frightened characters - even the buildings are expressing anxiety!
Virginia Erdie is an abstract painter who resides in South Florida, after studying at The Maryland Institute,
College of Art and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
