Virginia Erdie was born in rural West Virginia.

She attended The Maryland Institute, College of Art, where she received the
Jules Bodarky and the E. A. Navaretta scholarships.   She was accepted as
an exchange student on scholarship to the Central School of Art and Design in
London, UK, where she attended for 8 months, studying under Artist and
Printmaker Norman Ackryoyd.

She earned her Master’s degree from The School of the Art Institute of
Chicago, where she studied Art Therapy and Art Studio, with a focus on
embellishment.

Her earlier works reflect her training from The Maryland Institute, College of
Art, where she studied printmaking and drawing, studying under John Sparks
and Allegra Marquart.

Her current works are abstract relief paintings, where she uses texture and
embellishes the surfaces in a unique manner.

She strives to step off the grid in her approach to the canvas, while honoring
the professionalism instilled by her instructors and mentors.
