| Virginia Erdie was born in rural West Virginia. She attended The Maryland Institute, College of Art, where she received the Jules Bodarky and the E. A. Navaretta scholarships. She was accepted as an exchange student on scholarship to the Central School of Art and Design in London, UK, where she attended for 8 months, studying under Artist and Printmaker Norman Ackryoyd. She earned her Master’s degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied Art Therapy and Art Studio, with a focus on embellishment. Her earlier works reflect her training from The Maryland Institute, College of Art, where she studied printmaking and drawing, studying under John Sparks and Allegra Marquart. Her current works are abstract relief paintings, where she uses texture and embellishes the surfaces in a unique manner. She strives to step off the grid in her approach to the canvas, while honoring the professionalism instilled by her instructors and mentors. |
